VOL. I Issue 7A
THE HOLABIRD ADVOCATE CELEBRATES 6 MONTHS IN OPERATION
Can you believe it? The Holabird Advocate has been up and run-well OK, slowly crawling for half a year. Bringing Holabird to the world has been an interesting experience. We've taken a lot of chances in the last 6 months. Not all of them paid off. At any rate we all hope the next six months will be a pleasure for you the reader. To that end,we are going to start expanding and adding a travel review from time to time with reporter Hiram Gonagan. Also Buster Brock will be reviewing video tapes(we can't afford to have him review movies in a theater). As always keep the e-mails, cards, and letters coming in to let us know what you think about this great publication.
HOT TIME IN DEADWOOD
Forrest fires in the Black Hills reached Deadwood, South Dakota Saturday night. Among those evacuated were Kristi Hinkle's father, Jan Van Tassel, as well as her brother and sister-in-law Jeremy and Sara Van Tassel. Last Report was that 8 buildings were lost and 4800+ acres were burning. Lead, South Dakota was evacuted south of Main Street yesterday.
PONDEROSA REACHES TRIPLE DIGITS
The last 3 days have reached 104, 107, and 105 respectively with more 3 digit temps expected for today and the week ahead. Watering the gardens have not helped as the dry weather continues with a dew points of 62 and overnight lows of 75. Mary Hinkle's flowerbed is a pot pourri oven these days.
MEMO TO CBS NEWS:ENOUGH WITH THE SPECIAL REPORTS
by Jerry Hinkle,Special to The Holabird Advocate
I don't know who is in charge of the news division at the CBS network. I do know that whoever it is has never babysat a 5 year old that really digs "Dora the Explorer".My Niece's hero Dors was just about to hear the riddle of the Troll to Cross the bridge to "something". I wasn't watching all that close, but just as soon has he started to get the riddle out, Along comes Susan Spencer to tell us that President W is out of surgery and is doing well. This is news? Ms. Spencer if W's life is in jeopardy, that's news. When W is "doing fine", that is not news. At least not news that you'd have to break into the cartoon time of our nations children. My niece can't even say colonoscopy and you thought she needed to know all about it At least back in 1999 when Dan Rather had a special report showing Monica Lewinsky's testimony you waited until the cartoon show was over and I could get her interested in a Bugs bunny video tape. Anyone with half a brain could tell you at CBS that this kind of TV fare is not best on Saturday morning. If only somone at CBS news had half a brain. I could run the news division better. Of course I'm not liberal enough and would probably not get the job because I passed the intelligence test .Luckily my niece, Britt, after she got over the shock managed to just shout out "Rat Finky",a phrase that helps me to know she's upset without using profanity. Sumner Redstone really has to get a 24 hour news network on cable for you guys to play with.Yes, it'll be at the bottom of the ratings, but then you're used to that by now.
