POLITICS IN SOUTH DAKOTA GETS NASTY-AGAIN
by Jerry Hinkle,Special to The Holabird Advocate
Once again the fighting has started in the Senate race.An environmental group that just happens to support the incumbant, Tim Johnson, has a TV spot that accuses his opponent of increasing the amount of arsenic in drinking water.Thune's people fired back that Johnson should be told to "stop the attacks". This is not fair to the Senator as he has no power over this group, just as Thune had no power to stop the attacks on Daschle earlier this year.As for the arsenic in the drinking water,Thune merely voted to drop the standards to a realisic level.Had he not done so,and had it not passed,we would have been beset with all kinds of federal inspectors shutting down wells on private property. All of us at the Holabird Advocate say,if your water has too much arsenic for you, get a filter and do something for yourself instead of depending on the goverenment to do it for you.Otherwise, shut up and drink your arsenic.
