Holabird AdvocateProviding all the news we see fit to print since 2002!Wednesday, June 05, 2002 VOL. I Issue 6B TENT SERVICE COMES TO HOLABIRD The Cathelic parishes of St. John in Harrold and St. Mary in Highmore conducted a Tent Service of the Mass at 3 o'clock on last Sunday Afternoon. The purpose of this mass was to pray for the farmers of the area. There has been a long dry spell that if left this way could result in a drought. Our Publisher was unable to come because 3 o'clock is his grandfather's "Boost time" and he wanted to make sure, old E.E. didn't forget. NO PUMPKINS THIS YEAR AT THE PONDEROSA Because of the dry weather it was decided by Harold hinkle that Jerry not plant pumpkins this year.Harold says that it's time for Jerry to rotate his crop.if that's anything like spinning your wheels, Jerry is already doing that.Harold and his Grandaughter Britt planted sweet corn where the pumkins were last year. THE HOLABIRD ADVOCATE BACKS A WINNER STEPHANIE HERSETH IS THE NOMINEE!!!!!!!!!!!!! Stephanie Herseth of Aberdeen is the Democratic party's candidate for it's lone seat in the U.S. House of Representitives.Herseth recieved about 59% of the vote the runner up was Rick Weiland with a mere 32%.Ms. Herseth will face current Govenor,Bill Jankow, who won his party's nomination with 55% of the vote.In His acceptance speech, Janklow said,"I've known Stephanie since she was 3 or 4 years old, and have watched her grow up into the fine lady she's become.I look forward to this campaign". REPUBLICAN ROUNDS NOMINATED GOVENOR In an election night surprise that not even The Holabird Advocate's psychic Claire Voyant could have seen coming,Mike Rounds of Pierre was given the Repulican nod for Govenor. The leader in the 3 way race recieved 45%(he only needed 35% to avoid a run-off)to the runner up Mark "Room at the Table" Barnett who had 29% of the vote. It looks like there was no room at the table for Barnett and 3rd placer Steve "Wiggle Wiggle" Kirby with 26%.Rounds claimed that his"issues" and "nice-guy" image won him the nomination, but others believe that it was the fact that the other 2 candidates negative campaigning simply did them in.Rounds, who had a shoestring budget, did little campaigning and stayed out of the Kirby-Barnett mudfest.Kirby, a former Lt. Govenor spent $2million of his own money.Money may talk in politics, but in this case, the whisperer won. Rounds faces Democrat Jim Abbott in the November election.Abbott won his party's nomination with two-thirds of the votes cast.Abbott had been accused of being a Republican in Demorat clothing because of several Republican contributions to his campaign. This bi-partisan support could make for an interesting election result in November, but a boring campaign as none of the mudslinging is expected to continue. SOCIETY:AYDEN AASBY ADOPTION David and Beth Aasby will be celebrating the completion of the adoption of their Daughter, Ayden on the 8th of June. The celebration is by invitation only.
