Holabird AdvocateProviding all the news we see fit to print since 2002!Thursday, February 07, 2002 VOL. I Issue 2D HINKLES MAKE DO WITHOUT BUTCHERS With Kolda processing burned to the ground and Mcdonald's Meat Locker booked solid it was up to Harold,Mary, and Darrel Hinkle to make meat out of the 3 legged heifer that has been pretty much waiting to die since freezing of one of her feet(almost to the knee)."When she's ready she's ready" declared Harold as they went about their task.Jerry was out there, mostly handing out tools as they used 5 different knives and a saw to get the meat harvested from the hide.suprisingly nobody lost their lunch at any time during the process which will not be detailed as some of you may be eating. If the butchering process affected Jerry at all you wouldn't have known it as he had hamburger for dinner. POLITICS AS "UNUSUAL" IN SOUTH DAKOTA The campaign season has started for better or worse in South Dakota. It's not "politics as usual" either. Our Senator Daschle, who is not up for re-election this year is being targeted by a group calling itself "Club for Growth".They have spent quite a few dollars advertising on television about him.All oif us at The Holabird Advocate can't figure out why. They have caused Daschle to take out some T.V. time as well.It could get nasty. On the other hand,we have Senator Tim Johnson, who is up for re-election this year.He is being challenged by Representitive John Thune. That contest is not getting nasty. Not yet anyway.Thune even went so far as to say that if anything negative about Johnson he would not be behind it,and that if negative campaining starts,we are being asked to ignore it and vote "for a candidate" rather than "against the other guy".Can you imagine such a thing? What if this kind of thing were to catch on?It would be nice if it happens.of coursethey are both spending a lot of money pumping themselves up,but we'll live with it,as long as they aren't tearing each other down. This race is said to be watched by a lot of people all over the nation.Lets hope Thune and Johnson keep up the good work. MUSIC REVIEW Alan Jackson's latest album is #1 on the Billboard chart right now.None of us at The Holabird Advocate can figure out why.People for whatever reason can't get enough of "Where were you when the World Stopped Turning?"Talk about a stupid question. The world is still turning.Life goes on.Does this mean we were not effected by the events of September last? No,but we were not effected by this totally meaningless song of Mr Jackson's.If he had nothing to say he should have said nothing.Still we give him points for effort. It is hard for anyone to come up with something meaningful to say about this topic. At least he tried. The song "I'm a work in Progress", however made me smile. That song will go a long way to help bridge the gender gap between husbands and wives.Alan Jackson has sold 35 million records in his career.and this album will make that figure jump before it's all done.We hope he put's the royalty money to good use.
