Old Home was Good Bread

All of us here at the Holabird Advocate were shocked and saddened to hear that The Old Home bread store in Huron is closing. In fact, we're told today is their last day. A lot of memories will be going along with that store.
It started out downtown. Our Publisher, Jerry Hinkle tells us about the times while he was growing up in the 70s,how seeing the sign reminded him of the commercial. Old Home sponsored Keloland's weather report with Dave Dedrick, and later on with CW McCall and his lady friend Mavis, who was a waitress at the Old Home Cafe. Jerry actually thought that store was the cafe and was bewildered when he went in the first time and saw nothing familiar.
Old Home and Keloland go way back. Dave Dedrick once said that once Metz Bakery, the producers of Old Home bread, advertised on Kelo, demand for the product forced them to buy a second oven. Times have changed. Corporations control the bread market now. In fact, Sara Lee, the company that owns Metz was bought not long ago by Grupo Bimbo, the same outfit that is trying to buy Hostess.
After a while, the bread store moved to it's present location near the mall in Huron. Trips to the Fair City will never be the same for a lot of people. The Locals tell us that Tuesdays were the best days to get bread, so it's kinda fitting that they close out on a Tuesday.

"Actor" Calls TV Show"Filth"

Angus T. Jones, who plays the youngest of the 2.5 men on the TV show of the same name was recently videotaped giving a religious testimony for the 7th Day Adventists in which he said, in part that his show is "Filth". All of us at the Holabird Advocate had a good laugh at that, since we knew that 10 years ago. Looks like Jon Cryer is gonna be looking for a job soon! (Somebody get Charlie Sheen's phone number)

Publisher's Notes by Jerry Hinkle

Some mornings I wake up wondering if there will be anything I can write about today. This was one of them. All the sudden things happen and then it's headline overdose time. Last night, I went to Walmart shopping for vittles and what do you know, I found some Twinkies. They were hiding, cleverly disguised at Great Value Golden Creme Cakes, but I saw through the box. I knew that wouldn't be enough, and then BOOM! More stories fall from the sky. you never know when inspiration will hit! It's hard to believe we've only been back for 4 weeks. Juggling this job and the job that pays has been tough at times, but well worth it. I hope you Readers have been enjoying your job as well! I'm planning on announcing Person of the Year on Monday. God be with you and do the best you can!
