Holabird Advocate Joins New Network
Mr. Ben Hanten of South Dakota 123 has invited The Holabird Advocate to become part of the network of blogs that he has launched earlier this month. South Dakota 123 will be indexing all of South Dakota's "relevant" blogs. Of course they would have to approach us.
Mr. Hanten is well known as a Liberal in his area, although we all know him better here as Bernie Hunhoff's son-in-law. He furnished the Holabird Advocate with his credentials, which are substantial and quite impressive. All of us here at the Holabird Advocate look forward to a good working relationship. Despite his politics. He has pledged to keep this network neutral. There are Liberal blogs, as well as conservative blogs listed. There is even a section for blogs which are not political at all, like the Holabird Advocate.
There will have to be a few changes made to the front page to get things started, but it is believed these changes will not be noticeable. You can see the Holabird Advocate, and all other registered blogs in this system at the web address www.southdakota123.com .
Senator Attempts To Remove Bible from Chapel
by Erin Curry, of Baptist Press
A Democratic state senator ordered his staff to remove a cross, Bibles and hymnals from the nondenominational chapel in the rotunda of the North Carolina legislative building, saying the Christian emphasis was inappropriate in a public building used by people of different faiths. But a higher-ranking senator reversed Senator. Tony Rand's decision Feb. 3 after Republican lawmakers complained. "The cross and the Bible are going back in the chapel," Norma Mills, chief of staff for Senate President Marc Basnight, said, according to The Charlotte News & Observer. In recent years, a group of lawmakers began holding weekly services in the chapel, bringing with them privately donated Bibles, hymnals and a cross, which they left in the room. Rand was not opposed to such services, but he said worshipers should take their items with them when they leave to avoid offending lawmakers of other religions. Charles Haynes, a senior scholar at the First Amendment Center in Arlington, Va., told The News & Observer that Rand was probably correct in banning the permanent display of religious material. "Not only is it probably the sensitive thing to do to keep the chapel available to all, but it may also be the First Amendment thing to do," Haynes said.
Chuck and Camilla to Make it Legal
by Jerry Hinkle
Publisher, Holabird Advocate
I didn't know whether to give this story to Ethan Aniston or not. Then I decided that whatever this story was, it wasn't entertainment. As I'm sure you know by now, after a 30 year on and off courtship, Prince Charles of Wales and Lady Camilla Parker-Bowles have decided to marry. The wedding will take place in a chapel in England some time in April.
I couldn't really care less what they do. However, as a young boy, I attended Charles's first wedding through the magic of television. I had to get up at 4:30 am to do it. I shan't be doing that this time around.
This gives me a chance to share a joke that my father heard when he went to London some years ago and repeated to me: It seems that Charles was walking one of his mothers prize Corgis (A breed of English dog) when this car came out of nowhere and killed the poor doggie. Charles was understandably upset at this turn of event to the point of weeping. The driver of the car was captured and the Prince was ready to throw him in the Tower of London (I guess they still do that sort of thing). The driver was on his knees pleading "Sire, I am a Genie and will grant you a wish if you release me!" Chuckie said, "Bring Mum's doggie back to life!" "I can't do that, Sire!" He replied, "But is there anything else you would like?" To which Charles said, "Could you make Camilla as beautiful as Diana?" After thinking briefly, the Genie said, "Let me take another look at that Corgi!"
Yes, it is true love. Charles had the most beautiful Princess in all the land, and he left her for Camilla. It proves what my aunt Dianne always says, "If you want to be happy for the rest of your life, never make a pretty girl your wife." So good luck, Chuck! I have a feeling you may need it in the future.
