VOL. I Issue 10J
BLOGGER.COM DOWN FOR REPAIRS
For some reason Blogger.com was offline for a good deal of the week repairing something too technical for me to explain. (we don't know the nature of the problem anyway, and they aren't telling us a thing). We are back and hopefully you missed us. We are hopeful that the publishing delays we have experienced will be a thing of the past. There's quite a bit to tell and we shall get to it.
SNOW ON THE PONDEROSA
The first snow of the 2002 autumn season fell on Tuesday morning. This delayed the millet harvest which has yet to occur. Warmer weather has melted the snow, but another snow has been predicted for Sunday afternoon and evening.
CAROL ZILVERBERG HAS FESTIVE 80TH BIRTHDAY
Jerry and E.E. Hinkle went to Highmore to attend the open House for Carol Zilverberg's 80th Birthday at the Hyde County Senior Center. It was also an occasion to cellebrate the 52nd birthday of her Daughter Lucinda. Mrs Zilverberg was a neighbor of the Hinkles for many years, and Lucinda was first educated in the one-room schoolhouse at Valley Township.
The festive occasion was the recipient of a visit from Representitive John Thune, who is running for the U.S. Senate. Mr Thune was thrilled to be introduced to E.E. Hinkle by Carol's husband Dave. Cake and Punch was served in generous portions as well as M&M candies and nuts, which are favorites of Mrs. Zilverberg.
HOLABIRD ADVOCATE INVESTIGATION TURNS UP NOTHING
After much muss and fuss all of us at the Holabird Advocate were not able to pin down a point of view of EMILY's List on the abortion issue. We have elected to stop looking for dirt where none can be found and keep supporting Stephanie Herseth as we have done in the past and will when she is elected and beyond. As far as we can tell it's sure that Ms. Herseth and her canidacy will not harm South Dakota, In fact we are more certain that ever she will help South Dakota.
SNIPER CAUGHT ! WE ARE SAFE FOR NOW ! AREN'T WE ?
by Jerry Hinkle, Special to the Holabird Advocate
This past week, we as Americans, breathed a heavy sigh of relief when we found out that the "D.C. Sniper" was caught. Then, Guess what, It was a mistake. It was only two illegal aliens. Then again it looked as though the long national nightmare was truly over. As far as this "Sniper" is concerned, it is over. What about the next one? Will we let our guard down enough for the next wave of shootings to start up. You know the media will just eat that up. They are already being deluged with people wanting to talk about this one. People who barely knew the man are lining up to say whatever the media want to hear.
I am hoping this is not going to be like the kidnappers I talked about earlier this year. People, if you could call them that, looking for their "15 minutes of fame", deciding to kill at random so they can hear about it on the Evening News. It could happen. You know I have two nieces that Watch "Dora the Explorer". That show has a fox in it. You parents out there know where I'm going with this one. The fox called Swiper who swipes unless he's simply told "SWIPER NO SWIPING!!". If only that worked in the real world. Still we have to have faith that somewhere out there someone can yell "SNIPER NO SNIPING!!" and it will happen. That's what I learned this week. I hope you, the Reader learned somthing too.
