VOL. I Issue 10H
PHEASANT HUNTING: FOR THE BIRDS
by Jerry Hinkle of the Holabird Advocate
Today at noon the pheasant hunting season started in South Dakota. The Chinese Ringed-Neck pheasant is the South Dakota state bird. However I understand that it is found in other states as well.
The hunters that we have around here start on my brother Darrel's layout. After they get tired of looking around there they make their way up to the Ponderosa ending up at the Nickleson place north of Highmore for a chili feed and some story telling.
The drought has effected pheasant numbers, but there are still some out there to be found, provided there is someone looking for them.
For the first time since the annual pheasant hunt got started a number of years back, Mary Hinkle has not gone to the Faulkton Craft show as an exibitor. she is going as a shopper this year, along with her mother, sisters, friends and a couple of grandkids. She has made sandwiches and cookies for all the hunters that pass this way.
HERSETH-JANKLOW DEBATE ISSUES
Last night was the second of three televised debates for U.S. House candidates Stephanie Herseth and Bill Janklow. Most of the questions were answered with nothing in the way of contraversy. Two issues that didn't go away quietly were the abortion issue and prescription drugs.
Herseth was asked to explain her stance on partial birth abortion in light of her recieving money from a group called Emily's List. Ms. Herseth welcomed the question and answered that she was not in favor of the partial birth abortion procedure unless the health of the mother was at risk and would vote for a ban on the procedure. Emily's List, she claims, is against the procedure as well. There will be an article explaining Emily's List as soon as we at the Holabird Advocate find out something about it.
Prescription drugs for senior was another hot button issue. Herseth seems to be in favor of re-importing American presciption drugs from Canada, whereas Janklow seems not to be in favor of such plans.
STEPHANIE HERSETH HAS
AN "A" RATING WITH THE NRA
The following is a satement written by the Democratic party for the support of Stephanie Herseth, who is being endorsed by the Holabird Advocate and its Publisher:
On the Herseth family farm next to the Sand Lake Wildlife Refuge, hunting is a family tradition, just as it is for thousands of South Dakota families. Stephanie Herseth learned to shoot when she was a child and spent time with her dad in the goose pits just south of the farm.
Stephanie learned at an early age that the Second Amendment contains one of our most important rights as Americans-our right to bare arms. She brings this strong conviction to her work today to protect our rights.
