Holabird AdvocateProviding all the news we see fit to print since 2002!Friday, September 27, 2002 VOL. I Issue 9O JOHNSON SIDES WITH W ON IRAQ Early this morning it was announced that Senator Tim Johnson of South Dakota, a Democrat, is Supporting the President in his decision to "Go it alone, if neccessary" If the U.N. doesn't come through with a resolution condemning Iraq and Saddam Hussain. Johnson, who faces a tough re-election campaign, has stated that he views Iraq as a credible threat to the U.S. KINDERGARTEN TEACHES LIFE LESSONS Education is taking a back seat in the kindergarten class in Highmore. The next generation is learning how to spell simple word, as well as words that start with a certain letter each week. According to observers Brittany Hinkle, kindergarten is teaching much more than this. She is learning that friends and friendship are important in life. That writing a letter to a friend that is far away can really make their day. The class is also learning that it's important to be considerate of others and that wrong behavior has consequences. Brit's class usually has ice cream on Friday Afternoon, but this week they were too noisy. No ice cream this week. The nations and the worlds leaders could learn a lot from kindergarten, but then so could we all. DR. PHIL: OUR LATEST COMRADE IN THE FIGHT by Jerry Hinkle, Special to the Holabird Advocate When I first heard of Dr. Phil McGraw and how he became aquainted with Oprah Winfrey, I was skeptical. After all, he was helping her spead all of her ignorant garbage about the cattle industry and Mad Cow Disease. Something that I have not yet forgiven Oprah for doing. He helped her snow the Texas jury into the belief that she was innocent as the new fallen snow somehow. You know thew old saying, " A little ignorance is a dangerous thing". Well that was then. Dr. Phil has proven to me that he is not an enemy to the beef eating population through yesterday's (Sept 26th) show. He exposed the monumental ignorance of the people behind the fast food lawsuits. They certainly didn't help their cause by that appearance. They likened this to the tobacco lawsuits. Dr. Phil quickly set them straight. It is truly amazing how a little common sense can get under the skin of morons such as they. I've found that in this country a lot of times if you substituted the word "moron" for the word "victum" it would fit better. especially when the one lawyer said "They (fast food resturants) have made my client a victum of their greed". See what I mean. Why is it that some people are so anxious, even willing, to be "victums", while most of those who really are victums declare, "I will not be a victum."? Dr. Phil invited the four fast food chains(consisting of McD's, KFC, Wendy's, and BK) to the show. They instead decided to make a statement. All four resturants claimed to offer heathy food on their menu . They also advocate personal responsibility. KFC recommends exercise as well as sensible eating. McD's claims it has nutritional information on their resturaunt premises.BK claims the Lawsuit is giving frivolous lawsuits a bad name and an abuse of our judicial system. I, your courageous, dynamic Publisher, ask you the Reader, to welcome Dr. Phil McGraw into the Holabird Advocate's fight against ignorance. If you can, check out Dr. Phil at a TV near you. To find such a station go to drphil.com. It's worth a look.
