WEED BOARD SAYS "SHOW ME THE MONEY"
COMMISSIONERS SHOW THEM THE DOOR
Tuesday morning's meeting of the Hyde County Board of Commission-ers was well attended and lively. The main reason: a disagreement beween the Commissioners and the Hyde County Weed Board. The point of contention is the Weed Boards request for a $50,000 budget. $10,000 for equiptment and $40,000 to pay someone to use it. The Weed Board has been paying part time wages of $12/hr and finding nobody willing to work for such a low figure. It is hoped that by offering $40,000/yr the position could get filled. It was pointed out that full time at $12/hr would be $24,000 and the weed population in Hyde County does not require a full time weed killer and the Commision gave the Weed Board a budget of $0.
The meeting on Tuesday morning was to protest the Weed Board's budget, or lack of one.Harold Hinkle was one of the number who attended along with several Hyde County other farmers and ranchers too lazy to get rid of their own weeds. This faction has forced the Commissioners to seek a compromise with the Weed Board, which it will at a later date.
BRITTANY HINKLE GETS FAT LIP
While at school on Tuesday morning Brittany Hinkle was horsing around and fell face first on a school desk resulting in a swelling of the top of her lip. After cleaning her up as best they could, the school authorities sent her home to avoid a lawsuit. She was let back into class later that afternoon when it was evident that she was up to the challenges of Kindergarten, fat lip and all. She is and has been doing fine at that. She has been asked to be more careful.
S.D. HOUSE RACE GETS NATIONAL ATTENTION
USA TODAY, The newspaper founded by Al Neuharth, a distant cousin of Holabird Advocate Publisher Jerry Hinkle, has called the House race between Stephanie Herseth and Bill Janklow "one to watch". Many have watched as Ms. Herseth has really given outgoing Govenor Janklow a real run for his money. The current incumbant is Republican John Thune who is running for U.S. Senate. A Herseth victory would mean a pickup for Democrats in the house as well as a loss to the Republican majority. Ms. Herseth has been endorsed by the Holabird Advocate and it's Publisher.
